Manager, Business Development
This is a full time position located in our Denver Office and reports directly to the Country Manager, USA. The role requires a combination of strong technical, analytical, coaching and leadership skills to assist US and Calgary staff in business decisions and positioning within the organization to win support for various initiatives. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and a creative team player with a track record of leadership and value creation.
Overall Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:
- Collaboratively develop strategy and set direction to:
- Drive the concept of Business Development within the US to replenish the existing opportunity set to position the US Business Unit for sustainable production/reserve additions;
- Develop and drive value added business development opportunities that provide for future value creation;
- Maintain industry contact network to allow new opportunity generation;
- Present well supported recommendations to US team and Company management;
- Work with the Land Manager to maximize asset value on existing US land base.
- Collaboratively evaluate potential opportunities, including:
- Foster and support effective communication with Calgary based Business Development team;
- Identify required evaluation skills and coordinate evaluation teams, including hands-on personal involvement;
- Effectively and efficiently execute transactions, including:
- Negotiate consideration and terms with prospective sellers and partners;
- Identify required due diligence skills and coordinate due diligence teams, including hands-on personal involvement;
- Provide guidance and support to inside and outside counsel in preparing closing contracts and agreements;
- Track results, conduct project look backs to determine economic and financial impact and incorporate learning’s into future opportunities.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
- Business, Petroleum Land Management, Legal or Technical Degree
- Minimum of 10 to 15 years of progressive and relevant experience in negotiations, business development and/or acquisition activities of which at least 5 years within a leadership capacity
- Experience evaluating and structuring transactions in long lived “resource plays”, including tight sands and shales, CBM and waterfloods
- Working knowledge of all acquisition and divestiture agreements and applicable contracts
- Well developed negotiation skills
- Ability to support, and work closely and collaboratively with various multi-disciplined groups
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate all aspects of complicated transactions
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Strong technical, economic and financial skill set
- Able to legally work in the United States of America.
