In working with contractors, we follow a supply chain management process which includes:
- Awareness-building
Our goal is to provide early notification of opportunities and help stakeholders understand our supply chain management process. Similarly, we value companies who are proactive, mindful of ongoing work or projects where they can make a contribution, and introduce themselves.
- Prequalification*
Where there is a fit with our requirements and a supplier’s capabilities, we will ask the supplier to complete a prequalification form to determine if a supplier meets our minimum requirements.
- Purchasing
When we have a requirement for goods and services, we draw upon the information provided in the prequalification form and additional specific information to select a supplier. Suppliers are assessed against requirements for technical, financial and environmental, as well as health and safety performance. In each case, a preference is given to companies with a strong commitment and record of workplace safety and environmental performance.
- Master contract
In cases where we wish to develop an ongoing relationship with a supplier, we develop a master agreement with them – outlining terms, conditions and other elements important to the work.
- Performance review
We carry out regular reviews with our larger ongoing suppliers to discuss performance and identify opportunities to enhance the work and our relationship.
*Note contractors working in Canada whose work is deemed to be 'safety sensitive' must be subscribed to the online prequalification system ISNetworld for consideration. Please see the exemption criteria (PDF).
