Enerplus conducts its business in a way that ensures the health and safety of our workers, respects the environment and builds positive, long-term relationships in the community.

Enerplus recognizes the unique relationship that North America’s Indigenous Peoples have with the lands in the areas where we operate, and the unique legal and treaty obligations that exist between Indigenous Peoples and the Government of Canada. At Enerplus, we strive to effectively engage with the Indigenous communities in our operating areas to develop long-lasting relationships based on trust, mutual respect and common understanding.

Every year, Enerplus regularly holds several one-day sessions to help build greater awareness of Enerplus’ Indigenous stakeholders. Employees from across the company participate in these sessions to:

  • understand Indigenous culture, rights and the legal responsibility we have for consultation;
  • understand the historical, current and future challenges of North American Indigenous Peoples;
  • build a strong foundation for fostering meaningful relationships with Indigenous Peoples;
  • determine how we can partner with Indigenous communities to better develop capacity, educational opportunities, training and economic benefits;
  • gain the necessary tools to effectively communicate and consult with Indigenous communities; and
  • dispel commonly held myths and misconceptions of Indigenous Peoples.
